It seems that we have some troubles with our emails from LS being caught in hotmail's spam.

I currently use php as email method in the global settings, and I send out max 20 emails per day via LS.

What is actually best to use - php or smtp?

php or smtp are the same.

You need a good smtp server, there are somes rules for SMTP server.

Like:
- Reverse DNS matches SMTP Banner
- Supports TLS
- Not an open relay.
- Not in blacklist part
- Use spf for DNS
etc ....

Thanks. I'll take a look at our host, I wonder if they actually were black listed at some point...

And some advice for mail content:

Don't use capital in title or in message.
Don't use 'Urgent' in title or at start of the message
Put long sentence with a lot of explanation.

Good points, and what do you mean: 'Capital Like this', or 'CAPITAL LIKE THIS'?

Yeah, I understand and agree :) As a person with a little bit of spelling dignity, I rarely use caps lock button ;)

If I change to smtp in global settings, do I need to add anything in the config file?

I see in config-defaults that there are some smtp parameters - so do I transfer them to config.php or not?

Yep:

config-default include config.php at end of the script, then n ever change config-default but only config.php.
