Just tried to see what would happen if a person tries to return to a survey that I've deactivated. I got a nasty SQL error about the table not existing.

1. Is there a way to give them a user-friendly message that "This survey is now closed" or something similar?

2. Is there a way to prevent people from starting a new survey but letting anyone who has previously saved partial results return and finish it?

Just to circle around, I did put in a ticket for this and they acknowledged it as a bug. They're working on fixing it.

In general it is always better to set an expiry date instead of de-activating a survey.

We're going to need to close these once we've received the required number of responses (150). We can't know when that will be.

In any case, would the response be different if it was deactivated vs. closed due to the date?

Can I just set the closed date to yesterday's date when I want to close them?

You can simply set the expiry date to yesterday's date and will still be able to acces all the data while no users will be able to take part at the survey anymore.
