I have upgraded LimeSurvey only once since it was installed. I used to get a message indicating a newer version of the survey was available, but I haven't seen that message for a very long time.

Today, I decided to do a manual check for an updated version, and received the error message shown in the screen shot below.

Is this a temporary condition, or is there something I need to configure at my end to clear the problem?

Maybe you are using a proxy or a server firewall blocks access?

I can't find a proxy setting anywhere in my PC, and I turned off my firewall just to be sure. No luck.

I also logged into my LimeSurvey installation from another computer running Ubuntu and tried the comfort update from that PC. Same problem.

Hmm, mostly a proxy causes such problems.

It might be possible that the update server is to busy, just try again later.
If that doesn't help please open a ticket at the bugtracker and...
  1. Give as much information as possible
  2. Attach your survey. You can mark your ticket "private" so that only the developers will be able to take a look at it.
  3. Provide step-by-step instructions how to reproduce the problem.
  4. If possible/helpful please provide screenshots

Afterwards please post the link to the bugtracker so we can follow the progress.

Sure, for security a lot of housing service block some url from the server.

You can make a normal update or ask to your housing service to put update.limesurvey.org in whitelist.

That doesn't explain why I was previously receiving notifications of available updates and was able to process them using my current hosting account. It was only after I reached 1.90+ Build 9642 that I no longer got the automatic notifications - and then, even the manual attempts to upgrade met with the error message.

However, I will ask the hosting provider to whitelist the update URL, just in case.

There might have been some server or configuration changes causing the program to not be able to connect to the update server anymore.

Thank you! Apparently, my hosting provider has added an "Outgoing Connection Manager" security feature, and this was the reason for the inability to update.

After being advised how to allow the connection through, I have verified that the ComfortUpdate option is now available again.
