Hi folks!

Is there a way to export the data while making a distinction between "not shown" and "not answered"? The difference is between an empty string and a NULL value in the database. How can I keep this info when exporting to SPSS or STATA?

Best

In CSV or Excel : no difference, you can use VV export manual.limesurvey.org/Exporting_results#Reserved_names {question_not_shown} : NULL value in database.

But it's a good feature request for a plugin event.

@Denis: Thanks for pointing to VV. I will have to look into combining the VV export with the SPSS syntax...

@jelo: Thanks for posting the feature request!

Hi everybody,

before the launch of the survey (creating and editing groups/questions), I'd like to predefine and distinguish not just "not answered" and "not shown" but "not completed" as well (for both of the latter two ones enter the database as NULL - according to manual.limesurvey.org/statistics). Furthermore in all of the three cases the values should be defined as negative values: "-97"/"-99"/"-91" (in the order as mentioned above). Data are supposed to be used with Stata.
Any solution on the way? :blink:

Thank you so much for any hint!
Best wishes

Hi bilo,

as Denis pointed out, you can see the difference between the first two when you export to a VV file.

Then you can recode like this:
{question_not_shown} => -99
[empty string] => -97 (means "question not answered")

You will not be able to make a difference between "not shown" and "not completed" though, as LimeSurvey cannot know if a question will be shown or not if the survey isn't completed. You will have to make this out on the filters you used in your questionnaire...
