we have a web-software (PHP, mysql) for conducting conjoint surveys.
Therefore we present 10 or more sets of two product profiles to the respondet (two set after next 2 sets). So he/she can decide whether to choose the left or the right product by clicking a radio button. this process ist will be repeated ~10 times.
The form simply uses radiobuttons with: OnClick=submit() so that after each choice a new set of two products is presented.

Right now we use the boilerplate question type, which is not usefull, as there is timeout running below and a respondent can skip the conjoint questions by clicking forward button.

how can we include that type of 'multiple' questions in lime?

update: we use the boilerplate question type with <iframe> to include our webform...

maybe we can create a new question type in lime -> we can provide the datamodel and php+mysql code.

Please do! We have need of this type as well. I could help with integration in the future.

well, unfortunately this approach (based on ajax) did not satisfy a real word survey with numreous different user and browser settings - a lot of them had blank screens :(

our new approach:
we exit lime and forward the user to our external conjoint-php-infrastructure and return afterwards to lime.

challenge 1 (still an open issue) is the inability of lime, to exit and return (e.g. with a token).
challenge 2 is the generaton of conjoint tasks. therefore you need statistical infrastructure to have the sample equalliy distributed, we pre-generate all the conjoint samples with R and store them in a database, because we have some more dimensions of information, than fit in the lime answer table (survey_12345)

see screenshots here: Screenshots
btw: we use choice-based-conjoint (CBC) with very large designs for our simulation infrastructure.

do you see a ways to (easily) exit and return to lime with tokens?

If you set your survey to be non anonymous and enable the "participabt may edit answers" question setting, you can easily leave the survey, proceed with the conjoint questions and then re-enter the survey using the token at the URL.
You can even pass another parameter by URL to hide the already answered questions by conditions so the user can continue the survey where he left.

Another option would be to use the "save and return later" feature and show a link to the conjoint questions on that screen by editing your template accordingly.

@simulator

It seems like your approach could work well for LimeSurvey. However, I don't pretend to have enough exposure to this code base yet to architect this feature. I would like to take a look at what you have, though, and see how things work now.

Thanks.

@Mazi:

Thanks for the tip on the "participant may edit answers" setting. Is there a canonical way for LS to redirect the participant back to a custom php page on exit (i.e., cancel or complete)?

choffman, you can hide questions at the end of the survey by using appropriate conditions. Then you can use the end URL feature and autmatically load it to direct the user to the conjoint script.
Afterwards you can redirect the user back from the conjoint script to Limesurvey and pass a parameter by URL to "enable" the questions at the end of the survey and hide the already answered ones. This way the user can fill out the second part of the survey.
