Importing TXT survey structure fails (OSX) after open in Excel

Dear Forum!

I love the tab-separated-file export option in limesurvey because its so easy to make changes in the survey structure. But after trying to re-import the file I am super frustrated. I tried several ways to prevent the import error message, but no success:

- tried "save as tab-separated" in Excel
- tried to copy and paste the text in an unmodified text-file after having it open in Excel
- tried to import it as a CSV file

Hope somebody can help.

Thank you!
Mike

I would even go one step further, do'nt use excel for this, use libreoffice. I had many problems with the export, that stopped after using libreoffice. Of course you can save it in libreoffice as a excel file en use it in excel if you want.

The problem is that MS Excel doesn't stick to standard. It is famous for creating problems when dealing e.g. with CSV files. Once a CSV file exported from Limesurvey is opened in Excel and saved, the internal data structure changes which could lead to failing import.
