Good day

We are using limesurvey191plus-build10859-20110826.tar.bz2

We created a survey.

We fill the database with information.

When we try to export the results/statistics as XLS, the following error appears in the apache log:

MY_IP_ADDR - - [02/Dec/2011:09:00:01 -0200] "GET /images/edit_30.png HTTP/1.1" 200 1345

After processing the page ends in this URL.

https://MY_DOMAIN.COM/admin/admin.php?action=exportresults

Body page result information:

No data received
Unable to load the webpage because the server sent no data.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connection without sending any data.

This is what we have in the first 10 lines of file startup.php

# head -10 /var/www/html/MY_DOMAIN.COM/classes/core/startup.php
<?php

if(ob_get_contents() !== false)
{
ob_clean();
};
ob_start();

@ini_set("session.bug_compat_warn", 0); //Turn this off until first "Next" warning is worked out

I increased the Apache LogLevel from warn to debug and of solved the problem described in the logs:

"failed to delete buffer zlib output compression"

using directive in VirtualHost:

"php_flag zlib.output_compression off"

This no longer appears instead of the apache mod_deflate doing this effect:

[Fri Dec 02 11:19:16 2011] [debug] mod_deflate.c (447): [client MY_IP_ADDR] Zlib: Compressed 73816 to 279552: URL / admin / admin.php, referer: https://MY_DOMAIN.COM / admin / admin.php? exportresults action = & sid = 18352

But I still have no return on xls

It works in CSV, and if I choose just one or more columns as xls, but not all.

I performed testing on Windows 7 with Internet Explorer and ubuntu with google chrome.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks in advance.

This might be related to insufficient ressources. Raise the max execution time and similar settings because the export can require lots of ressources depending on the size of the survey and the number of answers.
If you can export half the data fine than a lack of ressources seems to be the problem.

on php.ini

BEFORE
> default_socket_timeout = 120
> max_execution_time = 30 ; Maximum execution time of each script, in seconds
> max_input_time = 60 ; Maximum amount of time each script may spend parsing request data
> memory_limit = 120M ; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume

AFTER
< default_socket_timeout = 1200
< max_execution_time = 1200 ; Maximum execution time of each script, in seconds
< max_input_time = 1200 ; Maximum amount of time each script may spend parsing request data
< memory_limit = 256M ; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume

same, no result.

thanks anyway.

Can you confirm that XLS export works fine for some very few data sets?

Can you reproduce the problem with different surveys?

Which export do you use, the one at the statistics overview (including charts) or the export responses feature where you can export to different file types?

answers:

1) I tried the XLS output from a different surveys with much more data and less data and it worked.

2) Only this survey presents the problem.

3) yes

Answering "yes" to a "X or Y?" question makes it hard to guess which part you were referring to ("Which export do you use, the one at the statistics overview (including charts) or the export responses feature where you can export to different file types?")
:-)

Where do you see this message: "Last Visit Date: 30 Nov 1999"? I get "Last Visit Date: 03 Dec 2011"

1)
After selecting the survey, clicked on:

responses -> responses & statistics -> export results to application.

There i have four types of format PDF, CSV, XLS, DOC

2) Below the recent topics, but today is correct.

maybe it's worth updating Limesurvey to the latest version? I remember some export perfomance patches were committed the last months.
