I would like the questions on my survey to be numbered (1-36) before the text of the question, simply:

1. Question one
2. Question two
3. Question two

How do I do this?

Also, in the array question, I'd like to get rid of the field that says 'subquetsion' (the horizontal part of the grid) so that there is no text before the scale. Is this possible?

Thank you!:)

1) There is a setting in the Survey properties --> General settings --> Presentation & navigation:

2) Just leave the sub-question blank and there will be nothing in the y-scale:

My General settings - presentation and navigation page only shows me drop down options with Yes or No, the screenshot above for my first query does not show in my survey settings..

Which Version of Limesurvey are you using?
Have a look at the manual! It is a really valuable source for information. Here some helpful links:

What is the next best version to be able to access these options?

Thanks!

This message (in subject) is below every question with multiple options, the problem is on a yes/no question it doesn't make any sense to have that message with only two options to choose from. Is there a way to remove this?

Thank you!

Well, for a YES/NO question it doesn't make much sense to use a multiple option question. You should use a single choice question or the "yes/no" question type.

Because it should be either yes or no, right?

Have a look at the advanced question settings, there is an option "hide tip" which triggers the display of that message:
