Hello everybody,

I'm doing my first survey using LimeSurvey (version 1.91 build 10202). I just finished inputting the groups and questions, they are in Dutch and French. In some of these questions (eg radio-buttons) , I enabled the option "Other" and wanted to change the other-label to something meaningful in those languages.

However, changing the label for "other" in something meaningful in Dutch also changed it to the same (Dutch) value in French and vice versa, so I guess there is only one "field" to contain the "other" value while there should be as many as there are languages selected in the survey. Is there a workaround for this inconvenience?

Also, testing a question containing the "other" option, filling in some dummy answer in the "other" text field and pressing <ENTER> results in a "Object not found" error (404). This might be due to the fact that the survey is not activated yet, but this error-message is rather surprising.

For different other text in fr/en ( i don't know the langage for dutch).

You can do something like that:

In you other text:
<span lang="fr">Autre</span><span lang="en">Other</span>

And in your template.css:
body:lang(fr) span:lang(en){display:none}
body:lang(en) span:lang(fr){display:none}

Thanks, Schnoulle, for the quick answer.

Changing the field "other" to some html-embedded value doesn't seem to get interpreted, as shown below.

Oups,

Yes you're right, seems to work on 1.90 but not on 1.91.

I don't know why, but i think it's a regression.

[EDIT] No, actually you can use translation string in other replace texte.

docs.limesurvey.org/tiki-index.php?page=...anslating+LimeSurvey

Maybe someone can have another idea, but i think you can d a bug report.

I'm not sure it's best.

Hmmm, I'm not sure I understand what you're suggesting, Denis.

What I'm trying to achieve is change the label for "other" for each question where the "other" option is enabled.

pe:
question x: Other database server
question y: Other mail server
question z: Other web server

Changing the language files (as I think you want me to do) may only be useful in the case where the "other" label is replaced by a single but different label.

Personally, I'm convinced that including multilanguage support for the "other" label should be something builtin in the administrator interface but I have no idea how much work is involved in implementing it that way.

I think this is not really a bug (it's working as designed), but it's certainly an enhancement to be considered for a future release.

Yes,

I understand, but i think no you can do it with translation. But i think it's more difficult to make by the user than use my workaround. No you can do like that (maybe there another method, best method)

add in your index.php one function my_other_translation()
in this function put:
$myotherdatabase = $clang->gT('Other database server');
$myothermailserver = $clang->gT('Other mail server');
$myotherwebserver = $clang->gT('Other web server');
Open the limesurvey/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/fr.php file with poedit and "update from the source".
Then you can translate the third sentence for Other ...

Before 1.91, i use the workaround with some css and some lang but now you can't.

I think it's very difficult to do the same think now, then maybe you can submit a bug report or a feature request :) (and put the link here please).

I filed a bug report as suggested by Denis.

bugs.limesurvey.org/view.php?id=5320

For the moment, my easiest workaround is to display both Dutch and French "other" labels simultaneously because these are the only two languages in my survey, but that becomes very unpractical when even more survey languages are involved.

Thanks!
