Why is this doing this? It is scattered all over the place.

If you use your own template check it.

Else : lok at the source of each question, description. Maybe you have a html tag open and don't close.

(did you use MS word (tm) ?)

It's almost impossible for us to debug custom templates but you can check the styles in template.css.
