Hello all,

I have been evaluating various Survey systems to fulfill the need for our organization. The survey in question would ask following type of questions where you can add additional text inputs for extra answers to the same question.

Eg.
Q.]What activities would you like to do during Camp?

A.)
B.)
C.)
<<Add Another Field>>

These would be blank text fields which the user can fill. However at this point I would also like to enable them to add extra boxes to the default A.) B.) or C.) like say D.) & E.)

In above example a user can fill A.) Painting, B.) Swimming, C.) Nature Hikes and also depending upon his likes he can add D.) Music Workshop and E.) Craft Workshop

Similarly, another question would be

Q.]Please list your Badges & Merits?

A.)
B.)
C.)
<<Add Another Field>>

Now a person can have 0 Badges to upto 80+ He can choose to enter any number he feels important, say 0 or 20 Badges he has earned. I want to be able to add multiple fields in front of this question like. if he enters Badges as

A.) Coin Collecting | <<Date Earned>> | <<Comments>>
B.) Fire Safety | <<Date Earned>> | <<Comments>>

.... And a way to add more fields to this answer like C.), D.), and so on till he lists all his badges.

Another example for a Counselor would be

Q.]Please list your areas of expertise in handling activities
A.)
B.)
<<Add Another Field>>

Where he can enter-

A.) Music Workshop | Qualifications in Support of this(Graduated with Music as Major) | <<Experience Certificate to be attached as a file here>>
B.) Coach | Successfully held sports events | <<Experience certificates to be attached as a file here>>

<<Add Another Field>> < And a way to add more fields a user can add as many as he wants.

Can this be done easily with LimeSurvey? or would there be extra customization required for such kind of surveys?

This can't be done easily using Limesurvey because of technical limitations. When activating a survey, the table holding the answer data is created and this is fixed. This means that you can't add new questions and answers.

To work around this, you'd have to create enough questions and answer options to cover the users needs because looping isn't supported yet. You can have a new question if you are asking the user to enter answer options, see this example: www.partnersinc.biz/surveys//index.php?s...32&newtest=Y&lang=en

You can then use array filter to only show selected items at a following rating question, see docs.limesurvey.org/Advanced+question+se...eSurvey#array_filter

To put it in a nutshell: Limesurvey lacks dynamic here but there are workarounds for several issues.

Another way to do that is to first as the question of how many fields you want, and then use relevance to conditionally display that number of fields. They would be separate "questions", but you can use templates to make them appear as if they are related (e.g. remove extra padding between questions). That might not seem as convenient as having a button to add extra attributes, but it is supported right now without any additional customization.

That is the approach taken in this example.
