I am new to Limesurvey, designing the first survey for our NGO (an easy one;) ) It would be great to have sums of the assesment of the first array values from Q101 to Q105 (all dual array types) in the database. I installed 1.92 RC3 to get the EM, but here I get stuck again, because I can´t find how to correctly specify the reference to the Question e.g. Q101 to sum up the validation.
For better explaining what´s my goal I added the htm of the survey logic file. There should just be the vertical sum of the array answers [A1]to[A5]validations stored.

Would be thankful for a hint where to look for that in the Doku, thx.

If you export that group and attach it, I can show you what the equation would be.

It isn't quite clear what you mean by summing the columns. Here is a version of your group that shows the count of answers of each type for your dual scale questions.

File Attachment:

File Name: limesurvey_group_96.lsg
File Size: 51 KB

And the equation looks like this:

Tom, would it be possible to add this at your online demo so that one could see on screen how the assessment values change when clicking different answer options?

The group attached below works, so people can try it on their own installs.

Perhaps LimeSurvey can host demos of the 1.92 RC features, as I'm likely to need to turn off my demos in the near future.

I totally second this. Please contact Carsten and ask him to set up something like emdemo.limesurvey.org which points to the latest _dev SVN branch. We can then create some nice demos (you should already have plenty of them) because for most users EM syntax is still a little hard to understand, though the documentation is getting better and better. It's always easier to adapt an example than setting an expression up from scratch.

Hi Tom,

that was exactly what I needed. I just need to look now how this answer is stored in the database to use it in statistics, but it looks like exactly what I need and it is great and helpful to display it also in the survey as it is. So thanks a lot, all parts of this survey of course can be provided as example for other users, I guess for Newbies like me it is helpful. Great thx again, Dominik

The example I gave was just to show the equations in general.

If you want to store it in the database, the best way is to create separate questions (of type Equation) for each value you want to store in the database.

For example, for the Highly Contributing score, you might name a variable sumHC, and give it the equation:
{sum (Q101_1_0.NAOK == "A1" , Q102_2_0.NAOK == "A1" , Q103_3_0.NAOK == "A1" , Q104_4_0.NAOK == "A1" )}

And for Counterproductive, you might name a variable sumCP and give it the equation:
{sum (Q101_1_0.NAOK == "A4" , Q102_2_0.NAOK == "A4" , Q103_3_0.NAOK == "A4" , Q104_4_0.NAOK == "A4" )}
