I have this Yes/No with free text if no is selected (two separate questions). Are there ways to enforce input in the free text field if No is selected?

Why don't you make the free text field question mandatory?
Have a look at the manual! It is a really valuable source for information. Here some helpful links:

It should only be mandatory if the No option is selected.

Why don't you make it mandatory and use conditions to only display it if "No" is selected?

If I say it's mandatory but not display it, wouldn't it still stop the survey from being submitted?

I wasn't aware that you could dynamically display fields like that. Would you know of a good tutorial or source to get me started? I was looking on the documentation wiki and didn't find anything useful on the subject (or I wasn't looking properly).

The mandatory question will have no affect on the survey if it's hidden by conditions.

Have a look at "Setting conditions" - docs.limesurvey.org/Setting+conditions&s...tions+for+LimeSurvey

Thanks!

To recap, I created my free text and went into the advanced section to hide the question. Is this the proper way to hide it?

I'm previewing the survey and the question I just hid, is being displayed with "{}" besides the question. Should this question be hidden or will it only be hidden when I activate the survey?

No, use conditions to hide it.
