I have just installed version 1.87+build 8518 and have developed my first survey (the host is FatCow).

I keep getting this message:

"ERROR
We are sorry but your session has expired.
Either you have been inactive for too long, you have cookies disabled for your browser, or there were problems with your connection."

I have changed the $memorylimit to 512M in config-defaults.php file and the session lifetime to 12000 seconds in the global settings file.

If I spend more than about 5 minutes on the survey, I get the timed out message. For what it's worth, I also have to log back in as admin about that often. I don't have this problem anywhere else on the site or with the site's WordPress installation.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

casahac

Configuration settings are not to be changed in config-defaults.php. Copy the line from config-defaults.php to config.php and make the changes there.

[EDIT]
You can also set the session duration time in the Global settings --> General screen.

As I noted, I did also change some settings in the Global Settings file.

I finally got so frustrated with the session expired issue (I tested it; it was timing me out after about 2 minutes of inactivity) that I moved the whole installation to a domain that I have hosted by Bluehost. When that started giving me a similar problem, I opened a live chat with their tech support and showed him some of the dialogs from this site that all point to php issues. He said "Oh, I see......." then he told me to set up a php.ini file. I set up the php.ini file and that seems to have resolved ALL of my session expired and timing out issues.

To test it, I left a test survey open ALL NIGHT. When I went to it this morning, I completed a group, submitted the results and instead of getting the "session expired" message, it put up the next group of questions and asked me if I wanted to save my results, which I was able to do successfully. On the FatCow server, when I tried to save an incomplete survey, it kept telling me that my math was wrong when I filled in the answer to the math question. I may be old but I'm not stupid, my math was fine.

Anyways, I'm glad to have slain this demon, LimeSurvey is too good a tool to be bogged down by an annoying thing like being timed out inappropriately.

Cheers,

casahac

I'm having a similar issue. What did you put in the php.ini file?

Update to last stable build 1.87+ before trying to find browser related bugs. Which IE versions / builds lost the session?

1. Did you raise the session lifetime?
2. Where is your survey hosted, private server or ISP?
3. Do you have any add-ons at the Internet Explorer which might cause probems?
4. Can you post a link to the survey for testing?

Can you provide a link to a survey on your site?

Did you received complains about IE7 and IE6? Could you reproduce the problem with your own IE7 or IE6?

It would be easy to see if we all have problems too when filling out a survey on your server.

Hi,

I'm having the same problem.
Here's the link to my survey;

[remove by demand]

My colleague (administrator) has extended session time to 10 hours.

I have no problem with my firefox 3.6.13 or my IE 8.0

I was wondering if this could be related to the use by the receiver of old IE versions ?

I have been asked what were the minimum requirements for completing the survey and I have no idea.

Can this be because those answering are behind a firewall that blocks the cookies coming from our server ep-services ?

I'm using ep survey 190pl
I ve also tried adressing to the same people another survey based on EP survey1.65.
Same problems.

I have found this
support.microsoft.com/kb/181050/en-us?fr=1

Should I tell my client that it should extend session time within IE. Please forgive me if that sounds stupid. I know very little on how this works.

I have found this
www.limesurvey.org/en/forum/design-issue...-session-has-expired
directing me to this
docs.limesurvey.org/tiki-index.php?page=...ough._What_can_I_do_

I'll try to see if that works for me, indeed i have something like 20 questions and around 100 items...

I'll tell you how it works for me as soon as I find out, please tell me in the mean time if you have any idea.
