[done] Upgrade installation help for NonPHP writer 4 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hey guys.

I am installing the newest version, 1.71+, as an upgrade from 1.70. I read the release notes on how to install, but I am not familiar with writing PHP, so when the instructions says, "Look at new config.php to confirm new parameters and add these to previous config.php file", I don't know what NEW parameters I'm looking at! I did look at both config.php files. The only difference I'm really noticing is that the original one contains my site information, username, etc.

Is there anything I NEED to add to the original config.php file from the new one? (The instructions tell me to copy the original file, overwriting the new one.)

And then when it says, "Look at config-defaults.php for new parameters you might want," how do I know what parameters I might want?

I am scared I will screw something up here and my new install won't work. Is there a simpler set of instructions for someone like me who doesn't write PHP and is afraid to mess with parameters?

I just want to get the upgrade going. Thanks for any advice!

Hi!

Don't worry.

You can ignore config-defaults for now.
Just update the existing parameter in config.php.

The parameters in config-defaults are explained in the code.
Only _if_ you want to adjust one of the advanced parameters in config-defaults.php then you copy that parameter over to config.php and change it there.

Hey Carsten - thanks for the reply!

When you say "update the existing parameter in config.php," am I able to simply copy the original file to overwrite the new one? Or are there some parameters in the new file that I MUST add to the original one before I overwrite it? (Hoping that makes sense.)

Thank you for your lightning fast reply!!

If your previous version was 1.70 it should be safe to copy it over.
There are NO changes you MUST add.

Okay... now I feel stupid. I'm trying to Run the installer in admin/install/index.php. How the heck do I do this? From my server? From my desktop (where it's not able to open the file because it's .php)? There isn't a Run feature on my server cPanel!

I actually didn't have to when I upgraded today. However, to run the installer just simply go to the php file online with whatever browser you use.

Okay... I figured out to access the file via my browser, but it says my database is up to date, and then it says "Everything is fine - you just forgot to delete or rename your LimeSurvey installation directory (/admin/install)."

I swear I have read the appropriate section in the manual...it doesn't say anything about deleting or renaming my admin/install directory.

I'm also wondering why the new database didn't "run" and update.

Seriously... any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure I will feel dumb and hit myself in the forehead for not seeing it. But right now I really do need help getting this. I don't want to screw it up.

Thank you.

Ah, thanks Merk. What sort of result did you get when you ran the file in the browser? Did it say you were already up to date? Or did you get prompts to upgrade?

Thanks for your response!!
