I am having problems creating new surveys with LimeSurvey. Specifically, as per the attached JPG file , the Description and Welcome fields of the survey are greyed out and cannot be edited. Similarly, I am unable to write questions -- although I do have access to the answer and label fields.

I am running LimeSurvey Version 1.71+ (5246) on an Apache 2 webserver (XAMPP) with PHP5, on a Windows XP Pro SP1 OS.

What web browser are you using?

I tried in both Firefox 3.0.1 and IE 7.0.5730.11 and it failed on both browsers.

I have read about a similiar error before...

Please upgrade to the latest release (build 53xx).

I think this was connected to the editor which is used. Try to use a different editing mode by copying the setting for this variable from config-defaults.php to config.php:

$defaulthtmleditormode = 'ChangeThisValueForTesting';

I tried both popup and none (default was inline) but it changes nothing to the layout of the survey page.

After setting the $defaulthtmleditor to none, I can fill in the fields. However, now, after creating the survey, the option to create groups no longer appears; furthermore, I can no longer create new users as the headers (name, email address, etc) do not appear.

Is there anything else I should change?

I've got no idea. Unfortunately the editor expert is on holiday.

Did you check folder permissions? Some folders have to have write permissions.

If all this doesn't solve your problem try installing an older version like 1.71 (no plus).
