[done] CSV import problem 5 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi

I have searched the forum and found a similar error on an earlier build of LS, which suggests that it's fixed, so thought I would ask again in case this is a different issue.

One of our users is having a problem uploading a CSV question file.

She has followed the correct procedure but the import fails. I have also tried and get the following:

This file is not a LimeSurvey question file. Import failed.

Using:
version 1.71 (5001)

The user will have used Excel to edit the CSV, I have opened her copy in OpenOffice and it seems to be a valid LS question.

Any Ideas

As you said the user used Excel to edit the file. This is a problem because excel often does some unnoticed edit to the internal data format.

We recommend to use open office calc or any other texteditor like wordpad. Please try again using one of these editors.

This doesn't seem to be limesurvey related. Nevertheless some more information about updaten (build 5001 is quite old):
- Download latest release
- Upgrade instructions

Hi

I have tried starting again
- exported a question
- opened it in OpenOffice
- added more answers
- imported it

I still get the following:
Reading file.. Error
This file is not a LimeSurvey question file. Import failed.

I'm uneasy about upgrading. This set up is live and I don't want to risk it causing any other errors.

is there anything else that could cause this, for example is there a setting in the config that needs to be turned on?

Thanks
Ange

The isn't any setting in the config.

Adding answers in a .csv file isn't a very good solution! Better import the file and edit it using limesurvey.

Do you want to add ansers to a question in a survey which is already running?

hi

no, the survey is not currently running.

our marketing team used this feature quite a lot because some questions have over 100 answers - i.e. which country are you from..

I see. When adding such huge lists of answers the import/export is quite useful.

Take a look at this instructions on how to add large numbers of answers.

Hello,
I have the same issue with importing a new question. My questions are programmed in Romanian Language (RO). When I've tried to import the new question I received the same error. I have the latest version of Lime.
